Product Description

What is CMC?

Carboxymethyl Cellulose Sodium (CMC-Na) is a white fibrous or granular powder. It has no odor or taste and is hygroscopic. It disperses easily in water to form a transparent colloidal solution.

Several parameters define the properties of CMC:

  • Purity – CMC powder contains byproducts that are sodium salts. The purity is the actual Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose content in the product.

  • Viscosity – One of the most important characteristics. Viscosity can range from low to high. It is measured by digital viscometers at specific temperatures and different solution rates (1%, 2%, or 4%).

  • DS (Degree of Substitution) – The average number of sodium carboxymethyl groups per anhydroglucose unit on the cellulose backbone. This parameter is critical to control for certain applications.

  • Physical Form – CMC powder can be produced as fine powder or dust-free granules.

Specifications

All grades share:

  • Physical Form: Fine powder to dust-free granules

  • Degree of Substitution: Customizable (extra high DS and PAC available on request)

  • Purity: ≥99.5% available

  • Viscosity: Available from ultra low to ultra high

  • Loss on drying: ≤10%

  • pH Value (1% solution): 6.5-8

Custom manufacturing available – We can produce CMC with specific DS and viscosity requirements for your application.

Application Areas

Food Grade CMC

Applications:

  • Lactobacillus drinks, flavored milk, ice cream, fruit juice, gelatin, soft candy, jelly, bread, fillings, pancakes, frozen products, solid drinks, seasonings, instant noodles, and meat products

Functions:

  • Dispersion stabilizer, thickener, water absorbent, water retention agent, anti-cracking agent, emulsifier

Detergent CMC

Applications:

  • Bath gel, shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent, cosmetics, toothpaste, shoe polish, hair spray

Functions:

  • Adhesive, thickener, stabilizer, film former, anti-soil redeposition agent

Coating CMC

Applications:

  • All types of coatings, latex paints, water-based interior and exterior wall paints, casting coatings

Functions:

  • Thickening, dispersion, and stability. The paint stays mixed and can be stored for a long time without separating.

Papermaking CMC

  • Used in the pulping process to improve retention rate and increase wet strength

  • Used for surface gluing and as a pigment imparting agent to improve internal adhesion, reduce printing dust, and improve print quality

  • Used for paper coating – helps with pigment dispersion and flowability, improves paper smoothness, optical properties, and printing adaptability

Printing and Dyeing CMC

Applications:

  • Synthetic detergents, printing sizing, warp sizing

Functions:

  • Anti-contamination, dispersant, high screenability, film former, adhesive

Ceramic CMC

CMC works as:

  • Anti-settling agent, emulsifier, dispersant, leveling agent, and adhesive for ceramic coatings

  • Keeps solid parts evenly distributed in solvent so paint won't separate over time

  • Also used as a blank adhesive, plasticizer, suspending agent for glaze, and color fixing agent in the ceramic industry

Oil Drilling CMC

CMC plays several roles in drilling fluids, cementing fluids, and fracturing fluids:

  • Controls fluid loss (reduces water loss)

  • Increases viscosity

  • Protects the borehole wall

  • Helps carry drilling cuttings

  • Protects the drill bit

  • Prevents mud loss

  • Improves drilling speed

Add directly or mix into mud as a gel.

Textile Paste (Primary application for this product)

  • Acts as a thickener for textile printing pastes

  • Provides good color yield and sharp pattern definition

  • Easy to wash off after printing
