Cellulose ether - the "blood" of mortar

This is one of the most important and commonly used additives, primarily providing water retention and thickening.

Main types:

Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC): The most commonly used, offering excellent water retention, thickening, and application slip.

Hydroxyethyl methylcellulose (HEMC): Similar performance to HPMC.

Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC): It has good water retention, but poor salt resistance and stability, and is mostly used in low-cost interior wall putty.

Main Applications:

Water Retention: Ensures that the cement has sufficient water for a complete hydration reaction, which is crucial for achieving the mortar's ultimate strength.
